Dennis Wilson (Dennis Wilson) had two passions - music and surfing.
His brothers Brian and Carl shared with him the first passion and, to a lesser
extent, the second. Together with a cousin named Mike Dex (Mike Love) and other
Dzherdaynom Al (Al Jardine), they formed a band, a feature
which was a combination of diluted rock 'n' roll with a bit of singing in the
close harmony. In this group of close relatives was a man who grew up
over time in one of the giants of rock in the world.
In this world all too easy to throw the word "genius."
And Brian Wilson is often called a genius. Perhaps he did not reach
genius, but it certainly was close. Themes for his songs Brian
looking for lifestyle and hobbies gold privileged California
youth. He wrote about surfing the 'Surfin` USA' (closer in design to the
'Sweet Little Sixteen' Chuck Berry) and 'Surfer Girl'; Privolnoye of habitation in
'Fun, Fun, Fun' and 'I Get Around'; about cars in '409' and 'Little Deuce
Coupe '; about ... well, everything is said in the title - 'California Girls'; about
teenage problems in 'When I Crow` Up To Be A Man' and 'Wouldn`t It Be
Nice '. Someone once called Brian Wilson "journalist, sinking in
Californian lifestyle and describes it from the inside. "
Indeed, all of these songs - sketches enviable dalce vita (sweet
life), of which the dream of many teenagers. And for the unavailability of such
they could enjoy it indirectly - through the lyrics and smooth
Beach Boys harmonies.
Beach Boys flourished in those years when the music was dominated by the Beatles.
Once in the American Top 20 in 1962 with the song 'Surfin` Safari', they
got five hits in the United States before penetrated into English
charts with the song 'I Get Around' in 1964, the Beach Boys were competing for
popularity of the Beatles, and until 1966, Californians were noticeably inferior. in
'66 Brian Wilson did two workshops, innovative work, took
initiative from the Beatles and gained recognition in England. It was a single 'Good
Vibrations' and the album 'PET SOUNDS', but I'll tell you about them later.
Jeremy Pascall "The illustrated history of rock music", Chapter 3.
Brian Wilson and inspired these innovations, and dejected. he stopped
to go on tour and in general fell out of live performances. henceforth he
concentrated all his creative energy on writing songs for their
brothers and producing work. However, he realized that the public - for
At least in America, and his record company needed a song like
"California Girls", in other words - the continuation of the hit formula
success. Wilson was an inner urge to go forward with Lennon and
McCartney. He was tired of being a king "surf music", and he went into hiding -
to the world of recording, where he could carry on a film that was in his
head. The result was the album 'PET SOUNDS' ("Pet Sounds"). it
was a masterpiece of rock. Themes of the songs are not very original - the same
Love longing, the pain of loss. The new structure was sound and arrangements
songs. In England, immediately realized that this is a great album. Accustomed Lennon
and McCartney for any surprises, the English public to understand what
seeks to Brian Wilson. She already knew that the rock is no longer any
rules, and realized that Wilson further spread its borders. In America
The album did not notice. Why this happens is unclear. There's no
logical explanation. Maybe people outraged that this
slacker-serfist has the audacity to consider himself a serious musician. A
perhaps the American public suffered thereby complex
inferiority, which was subject to a British audience until
while the Beatles did not prove its falsity.
Brian was very upset by the failure of 'PET SOUNDS'. According to the testimony of his wife
Marilyn, he said: "Is it worth it to invest in his soul?" Fortunately,
He did not give up, and he created an even more great thing - 'Good
Vibrations' ("Good Vibrations"). They say, however, that it
intended for 'PET SOUNDS', but did not enter there because Brian still
not achieved what he wanted. Later he said: "I wanted to see,
what I can do. I tried to reach the top of the personal - as a writer,
arranger and producer. "
And he succeeded. This single we did not exist. He hit his ear
unusual structure: it sounded as though he were made up of different
"movements" that merged, broken up and re-merged. we have
never heard of such a complex vocal texture: it was not clear
Where does the vocals and instruments entered and vice versa. words seemed
incoherent: transcribed on paper, they did not make sense. For example: "I
hear the sound of gentle words to the wind, which lifts its aroma and carries on
the air. "But combined with this out of this world music they inspired
mysterious, sensual experience. And we had never heard of such a
tool that howled at the end (it was a "Theremin").
This song Brian Wilson broke another barrier in rock music. on
This time it is appreciated in England and in America. Brian was satisfied. However,
worth the effort to make a single, we learned many years later. In 1976
, Brian told in an interview with Rolling Stone: "We have made it
six months in four different studios. This was an experiment with four
studio sound - Each studio has its own distinctive sound. Here
why the final sound turned so kind. "Brian could
would have to add that the cost of entry made an unprecedented amount -
$ 16,000! Neither single did not have such a huge budget, and did not
long.
In fact, Brian was aware of the contrast between what he described as
"extrasensory perception" good vibrations title and ultimately
sensual, erotic sensations produced words. he planned
create something new. This was a new sound installation, connecting music and
sex. "'Good Vubrations', - he said - were advanced
rhythm-and-blues, but we are very risky. If anything, because of its
complexity, I did not expect that he prokanaet, but people certainly took
single, very well. They felt that the music flows by itself, that it
There are natural. "
Honestly, the single left us, the uninitiated audience,
a daze, and slightly breathtaking. But we have just listened.
What, then, he worked with music competitors Wilson! It must be
Many felt that the surrender. In fact, the rock used to be something of a
new ball game. It was enough for 2 minutes purring. Now osloumnye
critics were able to conduct classical tests for the purpose of
preparation of pop music, and with a high degree of credibility.

2 BEACH BOYS
The original lineup of "Beach boys" looked like this: Brian Wilson (p. June 20
1942), Carl Wilson (p. Dec. 21, 1946, at. February 6, 1998), Dennis Wilson
(p. 4 December 1944, at. Dec. 28, 1983), Al Jardine (p. September 3, 1942)
Mike Love (p. March 15, 1941). When in 1961 the above three brother,
their cousin and high school friend started a vocal command, they did not know,
that this will be the beginning of a long and eventful tragic events
history. Under different signs ("Carl and the passions", "Pendletones",
"Kenny and the cadets") children were at school parties, and already
then became apparent composer Brian gift. Wilson Sr. had
amazing sense of harmony. One of his first songs, "Surfin '",
published a local label. The popularity of this song quickly stepped
outside of his native for "Beach boys" Hawthorn, and led her into the charts
"Billboard".
Group immediately interested respectable men of the "Capitol records", and
in the summer of 1962 the guys got a contract from this company. Over the next
half the musicians nastrogal already four albums, which subjects
remained unchanged - surfing in its various versions. ten Songs
became national hits, but too much creative burden already
became a negative impact on the health of Brian (and he's still working
for "Jan and Dean).
In 1963, the popularity of the "beach boys" has reached Britain,
where the single "Surfin 'USA" significantly outpaced followers merci-bit. However,
situation soon changed - in America began the "British Invasion". And
Despite the fact that in 1964 "Beach boys" concocted three album
"Beatles" and the like surf-rockers left on the sidelines. especially Brian
puzzled after having lost him astray "Rubber soul". to issue
an adequate response liverpultsam Wilson Sr. locked himself in the studio alone
written material that is implemented in the form of "Pet sounds". Yankee habit
rushed to buy the album, but cloying surf rock on it, however, did not
turned out. As a result, in the United States suffered a record commercial failure,
but on the other side of the ocean "Pet sounds" found a warm welcome.
Due to the large nervous tension Brian health problems
become more serious, and the output of "Sergeant Pepper" it almost
finish off. The leader of the "Beach boys" thoroughly addicted to barbiturates and stopped
performing with his band. First live it replaced Glen
Campbell, who in turn gave way to Bruce Johnston. However,
despite all the trouble, "beach boys" in late 1966
sired undoubted masterpiece, "Good vibrations". "Vibration"
topped many prestigious charts, including shtatovskih
"Billboard".
Meanwhile, tensions in the team grew. Mike Love advocated
return to the kitsch-Surf Sound, and Wilson sought to innovate.
This was compounded by the further deterioration of the health of Brian and his
attachment to drugs. As a result, albums "Smiley smile" and "Wild honey"
suffered a relative failure, while the leader of the "Beach boys" came down for a long time
to bed. In 1969, "Beach boys" scandal left the "Capitol records", and
subsequent releases already out under the sign of "Brother-Reprise". album
"Sunflower" again expected commercial failure, and to return
location of the public, the team had a year to wander with tours
States. But the failure turned out to be a double "The Beach Boys in Concert".
By some miracle, the next year, fortune smiled again our heroes, and
compilation of "Endless summer" was at the top of the American charts,
spending a total of 149 weeks in the charts.
In 1976, after a course of rehabilitation work began to return to Brian
but in the future drug addiction has become more and more manifest
his brothers. It ended that by 1980, from the original
composition of the team were only Al and Mike. In 1985, "Beach boys"
made a successful attempt to return to the self-titled album, but soon
it began to decline again. After the death of Carl Wilson's group actually
ceased to exist. Brian E and pursued solo work, and
sign "Beach boys" was used Lavom and Johnston for the
occasional concerts.
