Tangled The Attack consists of endless lineup changes, unfortunate coincidences and change musical direction. And it begins with the group The Soul System, whose leader - guitarist Bob Taylor - best known for his work with The Downliners Sect and Elmer Gantry's Velvet Opera. Vocalist same Soul System, Richard Sherman, brought in a group of new guitarist Davey O'Lista, and they decided to convert Soul System in a more modern team. Familiar bassist O'List friend invited bassist Jerry Henderson, and two other band members - the organist Bob Hodges and drummer Alan Whitehead - came across an ad in Melody Maker.
By the end of 1966, the group saw record company "Decca" and found in it the potential to offer them a contract. The first single, The Attack, cover version of The Standells 'Try It', was written well, but sales of its poor.
But the real problems started with the next single - 'Hi Ho Silver Lining'. At the suggestion of manager Don Arden The Attack recorded a cover of the song Scott Inglisha, and on the reverse side of the group got its own thing - 'Anymore Than I Do'.
While that could be interested in Arden single all pirate radio station, accidentally or not, two weeks Mickey Moust released his version of 'Hi Ho Silver Lining' - performed recently left The Yardbirds Jeff Beck. The audience immediately identify with their preferences, Beck hit the charts, and the version of Attack for the most part remained ignored. As unfairly overlooked by the attention the B-side 'Anymore Than I Do', the first highlight O'Lista talents were noticed, in particular, John Peel, who used an excerpt from his solo on one of his jingles.
And not only John Peel. Very soon O'List was invited to join a new group of Keith Emerson - The Nice; Meanwhile, Alan Whitehead moved to a more successful project - Marmalade. Whitehead replaced drummer Brian Davidson, who is known to have followed the example of O'Lista and also became a member of The Nice.
Richard Sherman scored new composition consisting of organist George Watt, drummer Chris Allen, guitarist Jeff Richardson and bassist Kenny Harold. But the next attempt vinyl ironically failed. Coincidentally, in the same day, it was published two versions of the song Created By Clive - The Attack by another underground group, The Syn! As a result of this confusion, none of the singles have not received special recognition. Unfortunately, along with the title track remained behind the scenes and slow to play in the Indian style Colours Of My Mind.
At this time the group came guitarist John Dyukann, privneshsy Attack in music its distinctive sound heavy. Recorded a song with him 'Magic In The Air' was rejected "Decca" as "too heavy." During this period it was recorded quite a lot of music heavily influenced Dyukanna, which subsequently materialized your ideas with a group of Andromeda.
Despite the lack of commercial success, the group was well received on the club scene - in Middle Earth, Speakeasy and Tiles. "Decca" decided to try to release music in the format of The Attack album and even announced in the press alleged name - Roman Gods Of War, and release date - March 15, 1968. However, this idea was never realized, and all the material available to date, consists of singles and test studio recordings.
