"The Lemon Pipers" was born in the town of Oxford (Ohio) in 1961. Initially it was known as "Ivan & The Sabers" (in honor of their leader Dale "Ivan" Browne). The group started as active and cheerful, that already in 1964, has become one of the most popular in his home state. In the same 1964 the band plays the opening act for "The Rolling Stones" during their first American tour. In 1966, Brown suddenly left the band to join "Tony & The Bandits" (though, after a while he came back). In this regard, the group changed its name to "The Lemon Pipers". In 1967 she released the first single "Quiet Please / Monaural 78", which is a typical example of the genre "garage-rock". A few months later the producers of New York Kazinets Jerry and Jeff Katz come to Ohio in search of new talent. "The Lemon Pipers" fall to their liking and they invite musicians in New York, where the parties enter into a contract. The second single, "Turn Around Take A Look" takes 132 place in the national charts. Frankly, the result of "zero" - attention to the group almost nobody paid. Management of the company "Buddha", with which the band signed a contract, there are very unhappy. To remedy the situation, was called composer Paul Leka; in collaboration with Shelley Pinz he wrote the song "Green Tambourine". Demo was offered "The Lemon Pipers" almost an ultimatum: "either you write this song, or we break a contract with you." Musicians had no choice but to agree. In February 1968, the song "Green Tambourine" quickly broke the charts and was in first place. This success was not expecting anyone. In the wake of this success the group agreed to continue cooperation with the tandem Leka - Pinz, however, it did not bring any fruit - subsequent record had neither commercial nor Chartova success (the highest position - 46th). In 1968, the group released their debut album, titled "Green Tambourine". He presented "The Lemon Pipers" from different angles within a single plate they played psychedelic, folk-rock and heavy blues-rock. Apparently, the group could not decide how it go the same way.
