"Fantastic rock" because their work relied heavily on a book by a famous American writer and poet, one of the founders of "fantasy" and "horror literature" Howard Philip Lovecraft (1890--1937).
According to legend, the name of one of the heroes of Lovecraft wore dog first manager of the group. Read the story made by two musicians from Chicago so impressed that George Edwards (George Edwards; guitar, bass, vocals) and Dave Michaels (Dave Michaels; keyboards, vocals) decided to take the writer's full name as the name of their group. It was in February 1967.
In the same month, the duo (accompanied by a rhythm section of another local band ROVING KIND) did a trial recording: Room THE TROGGS Anyway That You Want Me, later published in the sampler Early Chicago.
Three months later, to HPLOVECRAFT joined by three musicians: Tony Cavallari (Tony Cavallari; lead guitar, vocals), Jerry McGeorge (Gerry McGeorge; bass, vocals) and Michael Tegza (Michael Tegza; drums, vocals), and then the band started performing at local clubs. Until LOVECRAFT Jerry McGeorge played in the popular garage band THE SHADOWS OF KNIGHT.
They signed a contract with Philips and in October 1967 they released their first album, which was a pretty diverse set of rooms ranging from folk standard Wayfaring Stranger to I've Been Wrong Before Randy Newman and a great remake of the hippie anthem Dino Valente Let's Get Together, recorded devyatichlennym orchestra. The strongest song on the album, The White Ship, which sounded real vintage ship's bell in 1811, was inspired by Lovecraft's short story and the beginning of their own "lavkraftiane."
After the release of the album in the spring of 1968 HPLOVECRAFT moved to Los Angeles and decided to stay home McGeorge replaced Jeffrey Boylan (Jeffrey Boylan), who played in the second-tier Chicago groups SATURDAY'S CHILDREN and HEZIKAH. There, in California, was recorded their second album. Retaining the features of his style and the gift of writing a dark, full of Gothic imagery rooms, the group made a significant step forward in terms of professionalism. The disc includes an excellent version of High Flying Bird (the California standard, which performed almost half of local groups), another topic lavkraftovskuyu At The Mountains Of Madness, and published in October, the same as a single Blue Jack Of Diamonds. Music sites echoed the JEFFERSON AIRPLANE and IT'S A BEAUTIFUL DAY, and the vocals remind THE ASSOCIATION. The spring of 1969 Boylan decided to return to Chicago. However, even in the ranks of the group soon began confusion and hesitation, as a result of which it is the middle of 1969 broke up.
