Joy Unlimited~1970 - Joy Unlimited aka Overground (2007)

This German English-speaking groups began her career as Joy & The Hit Kids. In 1967 and 1968 they released four singles on Decca. It comprises a talented singer Joy Fleming (Erna Strube). In 1969 they changed their name to Joy Unlimited in 1969-1970 released 5 singles on Polydor. Polydor also released their first album Overground (1970). The album includes 12 short pop-blues-rock songs, clearly inspired by Janis Joplin. By the time of the recording of the second album the group had seven participants. Schmetterlinge («Butterfly") was firm and confident step in a progressive direction. Very versatile album. In it there and blues «Rankness», and free jazz improvisation - «Sensual Impressions», and excellent progressive rock songs - «Rudiment». Musical arrangements became clearer, aided talented musicians. Vocals - female and English. However, everything changed when in 1972, Joy Fleming left the group to pursue a solo career. Also, the group left Klaus Nagel. Album Reflections (1973) was recorded five remaining members and new - American Ken Traylor (Ken Traylor). Most of the material was instrumental now, a lot of solo flute and saxophone. In the writings of the group became more and more obvious the effect of classical music and folk. Their latest album, Minne (1974) - Progressive folk-rock, perfect edition label Pilz, along with the folk group albums Hoelderlin and Broselmaschine.

A great combo from Mannheim, Germany, also known as JOY AND THE HITKIDS. They were mixing jazz-rock, krautrock, funk, soul, pop and psychedelic rock, with Hans W. Herkenne (drums, percussion), Albin Metz (trumpet, bass), Roland Heck (organ, piano, vibes, marimba, percussion, vocals), Dieter Kindl (bass, guitar, percussion), Gerd Köthe (saxophone, flute), Klaus Nagel (guitar, woodwind, percussion, flute) and Hans Lingenfelder (guitar).
Led by extraordinary vocal skills of female singer Joy Fleming, the band released their debut 'Overground'in 1970 (released under the name 'Turbulence' in UK and 'Joy Unlimited' in the US). Their second album, 'Schmetterlinge' (which means 'Butterflies' in German) along with the debut is the most representative band's material, and certainly worth checking.
Ken Taylor replaced Joy after 'Schmetterlinge'(she started a solo career), which was later replaced by Joschi Dinier.
