George Limbidis and Phil Pritchard spent most of the '60s in Australia, which gained experience in various groups. In late 1969, they returned to his hometown of Wellington, and immediately joined the same for a short time in Retaliation. Very quickly they tired of playing other people's music as their own ideas overwhelmed, and they decided to organize their own group. Soon they were joined by other Pritchard, Jim Lawrie played earlier in the Serenity Fair, and in early 1970, they had a vocalist Bruce Sontgen passed through a number of these groups-The Boddys, The Layabouts and Apple. The children came up with a name Highway, started rehearsals last for about six months. In August 1970, she held their debut in The Mickey Mouse Club in Wellington. A week later, they were invited to perform at The University Arts Festival at The Paramount Theatre. In January 1971, they decided to suspend for two months tour and go to the farm Wairarapa to continue to work on their own material. Upon returning to the lineup was adopted by George Barris had experience performing with The Bitter End, The Underdogs, Jigsaw, Fresh Air and Troubled Mind. The new lineup debuted in March, performing in Victoria University. Simultaneously, the HMV was released single "The Time Is The Time" / "What You're Doing To Me" Thereafter, The Universities Arts Council organized their tour of New Zealand universities, which was a huge success.
