The Rippers “Honesty” (1968) RE UP

There are many bands over the years who’ve gone by the name The Rippers; this version is the one-off psych-beat outfit from Germany, with only one album to their name, released only once by the UK budget label Saga. Noticeable influences range from Cream to The Doors to Detroit soul to California acid blues to pop ballads to Merseybeat to southern US gospel – while such diversity might make for a rambling journey, most tracks are nice imitations of the idols they emulate, and at least a handful of songs standout as comp-worthy gold for those on-going collections of rediscovered “nobodies” from the past. A lost castaway from the popsike glory days, this album has become a target for crate diggers & beat/psych/garage completists and is surely due for a remastered expanded version someday. Vinyl rip, never reissued on CD (or otherwise) as far as I can tell.
