Blues Project-The Blues Project Anthology[2CD][64-72]USA

The Blues Project is a band from the Greenwich Village neighborhood of New York City that was formed in 1965.While their songs drew from a wide array of musical styles, they are most remembered as one of the earliest practitioners of psychedelic rock,as well as one of the world's first jam bands, along with the Grateful Dead.

Recorded between 1964 and 1972.A long overdue and thoroughly comprehensive best-of by one of the most eclectic American bands of the '60s.ANTHOLOGY includes the whole of PROJECTIONS,their only studio album,as well as most of the best cuts from their live debut, here fleshed out with alternate takes and tracks that didn't make the official release. Also included is the better material from the Project's Capitol albums (post-Al Kooper),the great should-have-been-a-hit single "No Time Like the Right Time," and early studio tracks including a scorching version of "I'm Can't Keep From Crying" with Kooper on acoustic piano. Best of all,the remastered sound is spectacular the Project's vinyl albums had famously tinny sonics and the aural depth and warmth here is a revelation.

  1. Along with the Grateful Dead? Hell, the Blues Project were the ones that INSPIRED the Grateful Dead (and Quicksilver Messenger Service and Santana and who knows how may others) in the first place! Unfortunately, their ability to improvise was never truly captured on tape, although Two Trains Running at least gives us a glimpse of what made this band so influential on the whole San Francisco music scene.
