One of the best music of Eastern European teams, the Hungarian supergroup LOCOMOTIV GT, was formed in 1971 by four members of the three most famous Hungarian rock bands: bass guitarist and saxophone player Karoly Frenreysom (Karoly Frenreisz) of METRO Group, guitarist Tamas Barta (Tamas Barta) of HUNGARIA group and keyboardist Gabor Presser (Gabor Presser) and drummer Joseph Laux (Jozsef Laux) from OMEGA. The vocal parts were performed mainly Presser and Frenreys and songwriter group at the beginning of her artistic career was Gabor Presser and his wife drummer Joseph Laux Adamish Anna (Anna Adamis), provides the Group with the wonderful lyrics.
Their debut self-titled album was not long to wait, appeared on the shelves of music stores in December 1971, and is considered one of the strongest and most interesting in LOCOMOTIV GT works, presenting to the audience and critics fantastic mix of progressive hard rock and jazz, the basis of which part of an organ passages Presser supplemented adventurous guitar trills Bart, saxophone lines Frenreysa and gun cannonade Laux drums.
The composition "Boldog vagyok" / "Ha volna szived" and "Erints meg" / "Kenyeren es vizen" were issued as singles. For participants LOCOMOTIV GT made its first international tour in Japan and took part in the festival Yamaha with the song "Touch Me, Love Me, Rock Me" (English version of "Erints meg") in November 1971, after which all the musicians group presented brand new motorcycles Yamaha.
However, the second studio album, "Ringasd el magad", released a year later, the musicians surpassed themselves. The album opens with the composition "Cirkusz", probably one of the craziest things ever recorded by the group, which was followed by "A szerelem bortoneben" and surprisingly quiet and touching song "Szerenad". Interesting are also the composition "Kakukkos karora", "Kotta nelkul" and "Azt hittem". Soon he saw the light of a single "Szeress nagyon" / "Csak egy szora".
In 1972 the group made a successful tour in the United Kingdom, speaking on the stage of a music festival in Lincoln, together with such legendary performers as the BEACH BOYS, FACES and Joe Cocker (Joe Cocker). This event has become a sensation in the music world.
It should be noted that during this period Presser tried to make the music of the lighter and fill it with African and Latin American rhythms. Do not share his desire Frenreys in 1973 decided to leave LOCOMOTIV GT and create your own pure hard rock group SKORPIO.
A new bass player LOCOMOTIV GT became Tamas Somlo (Tamas Somlo). As a result of personnel changes the third album turned out much lighter than their predecessors, and only instrumental composition "Barzene" on it resembled the style of previous works. The greatest success fell to the songs share "Kek assony", "Vallomas" and "Mienk itt a ter", and in the singles were released "Hej, gyere velem" / "Csavargok angyala" and "Segits elaludni" / "Mindig csak ott varok rad ".
After the success of its European tour, the band members in 1973 visited the US and Canada concerts, having made his first tour overseas. In 1973 he came out as a very successful musical Gabor Presser "An imaginary report from american pop festival", telling about the tragic event that took place in 1969 at a concert group ROLLING STONES.
In 1974 LOCOMOTIV GT recorded in the United States its first English-language self-titled album, which was co-produced by Jimmy Miller (Jimmy Miller), who worked with the ROLLING STONES. In addition to Miller, in the recording of "Locomotiv GT" involved another musician who worked with the ROLLING STONES - Nicky Hopkins (Nicky Hopkins), as well as the famous British bass player Jack Bruce (Jack Bruce) from the group CREAM. However, in the US the album has remained virtually unnoticed.
Then Tamas Barta decided to stay and work in the US as a session musician. Unfortunately, he died there in 1982, and his place in the LOCOMOTIV GT took new guitarist Janos Karasoni (Janos Karacsony) from the group GENERAL.
Forgetting about his ambitions world fame, band members focused now on the tours and recordings in Eastern Europe. In 1975, only one in Hungary, they have sold more than 1.5 million. Copies of their albums, and this despite the fact that the population of Hungary was at that time less than 10 million. Man.
The next album LOCOMOTIV GT, "Mindig magasabbra" (1975), has been very successful, and such compositions as "Szolj ram, ha hangosan enekelek" ( "Tell me if I'm singing too loud"), "Es jott doktor" ( " And come to the doctor ")," neked irom a dalt "(" I'm writing a song for you ")," Egy elfelejtett szo "(" forgotten words ")," Ulok a jardan "(later changed into" I Love you Frisco ") , formed the basis of sound the group for the coming years.
Not bad fit into the style of the band and new guitarist Tamas Somlo (Tamas Somlo), composed the wonderful ballad "Alomarcu lany" ( "Lady of the Night") - the second major hit LOCOMOTIV GT in their creative biography.
In 1976, the band released their second English album "Motor City Rock". This time was different drive careful selection of first-class material, consisting of the best tracks of previous years and included new masterpiece Tamas Somlo "Eso es en" ( "Endless rain") and did not get to albums LOCOMOTIV GT, issued in the Hungarian language.
The fifth album, which was released in 1976 and titled simply "Locomotiv GT V", was the first double-drive team and opened a comic track "Csak az jojjon" ( "But who can endure it") with a few strange sounds. But he was followed by a stunning composition: playful "A kicsi, a nagy, az Arthur es az indian" ( "Small, great, Arthur and the Indian"), melodic "Rajongas" ( "Adoration"), bright "Mindenki" ( " Each "), which brought the band many new fans with its unusual funky sound, and two beautiful ballads" Valamit mindig valamiert "(" something for something ") and" Fiu "(" Man ").
At the same time, another of the songs looked a little pale and unconvincing: "Senki gyermekei" ( "no man's children") - a failed attempt to play reggae, "Szelid eroszak" ( "Soft Power") - a clear creative failure, and unfinished solo in " Ikarus 254 "(" Ikarus 254 ").
In 1977, the group left Laux and his place was taken by another former musician GENERAL Janos Solti (Janos Solti). With him LOCOMOTIV GT recorded the concept album "Zene - Mindenki maskepp csinalja" ( "Music - Everyone does their own thing"), which once again surprised his listeners. A number of compositions in the style of classical music alternated on it with beautiful piano sonatas that affect the most delicate strings of the human soul. And only in the compositions "Engedj el" ( "Let me go") and " 'Boogie a zongoran" ( "Boogie for Piano") sounded familiar to fans of funky rhythms.
The next LP, "Loksi" (1980), was another double in the discography LOCOMOTIV GT, which opened a series of albums of dance music. Most of the songs on it were like disco compositions popular in those years the group BEE GEES, but "Embertelen dal" ( "Crying Song") and "Szentimentalis rakenroll" ( "Sentimental rock-n-roll") reminded fans of the original rock-oriented staff, as well as another lyrical ballad Somlo "Nagyon kell, hogy szeress" ( "I really need your love").
In the same 1980 the band LOCOMOTIV GT played a joint concert tour with his counterparts from OMEGA and BEATRICE, and released another album in English, which, however, was found to be very weak, because this time the English versions of the songs on it were just pale copies of the Hungarian originals.
And in 1982, members of the band gave the audience his tenth album, recorded, like its predecessor, the dance style, but contained material on it was definitely higher quality than on the album "Loksi". Of particular note are such compositions as the "Zenevonat" ( "Music Machine"), "A siker" ( "Success"), " 'Holnap" ( "Tomorrow") and "A szel lassan elfujja az utoslso dalom" ( "My last song flies with the wind ").
In 1983, during his next UK tour opening for 10SS participants LOCOMOTIV GT performed in many famous venues, including two nights at London's prestigious Hammersmith Odeon. However, in this 1984 team is still broke. Later, groups of musicians tried several times to meet again, but really could work together only in the mid-90s, and later saw the light of two of their new studio album - "424 - Mozdonyopera" (1997) and "A Fiuk A Koscmaba Mentek" (2002).
