If-If5-2016

If was formed in 1969 when USA Record producer Lew Futterman asked highly respected Jazz saxophonist Dick Morrisey to form a band. Dick worked frequently with Melody Maker poll-winning guitarist Terry Smith and, at the time, the three of us were gigging with The J.J. Jackson 10-piece soul band, and I recommended singer J.W. Hodkinson. The four of us signed a personal management contract with Futterman and he came up with the name IF. Futterman then negotiated recording deals with Island Records UK and Capitol Records USA. IF recorded 4 studio albums between 1970-1972, before the band split up. Dick died in November 2000 and J.W. passed away in June 2013, so Terry Smith and myself are the only remainig original founding members.
