Still relatively unknown in the states, the Scorpions
delivered the goods in spades with the 1977 release of Taken by Force.
The tight German stingin' band kicked down the walls with uber
authority, while shading the LP with sobering cuts.
Behind Rudolph Schenker and Uli Jon Roth's stealth guitar work, plus Klaus Meine's strong vocals, the Scorps rolled throughout Taken by Force. Just check out barnstormers such as "Steamrock Fever", which features a jackhammer riff, the gender-bending "He's a Woman, She's a Man", the searing "We'll Burn The Sky" and "I've Got to be Free". In contrast to the metallic roar, "The Sails of Charon", is a slow, mysteriously moving piece, that is a true classic from the band, while "Your Light" is a breezy number, and set closer "Born to Touch Your Feelings" is a lengthy ballad.
The eight song Taken by Force finds the Scorpions hitting their stride and performing with confidence. Those in the know back in the late '70s realized what was brewing. International success was not far away for Klaus and the boys.
