Spirale - Spirale (1974)
First and only disc recorded by this band from Rome to be included in the mainstream of jazz-prog Italian (in this case much more jazz prog), alongside big names such as Naples Central and Arts & Crafts, but also to groups "minor" as Maad Hexagon and Centre of Gravity. The album contains four songs, two long suites - Cabral and Chilli (old things, new things) - and two runs short (Rising and A Ballad for Yanes). Something special is the optical image of the album cover. Rising is a jazz piece of excellent workmanship. Witness the perfect fusion of all instruments, interspersed with a drum solo, from which emerge, for most of the song, the horns of Giancarlo Maurino (sax) and Gaetano Dolphins (trumpet) and in the final keyboards Corrado Nofri. Starting from "tropical forest" for Cabral, then takes over the bottom of Peppe Caporello, closely followed by piano, drums and wind instruments which give us another great jazz performance. Rising will be like in the wind, in this case the trumpet, to take over in the course of the song. After more than seven minutes there is a return to "South American" thanks to the rhythm of tribal Giampaolo Ascolese, supported mainly by the plan early on. In the end it comes back to jazz. Ballad for Yanes is a short running very romantic, a ballad based fundamentally on the floor and on a lightweight battery. The longest track closes the album. Chili (old things, new things) recalls the first two tracks on the album. The amalgam of instruments is fantastic. Woodwinds, bass and piano are the masters. If Rising in the solo was touched to the battery, now it's up to the bottom of Peppe Caporello embellish the piece. After about six minutes on the scene a nice game of wind and then give way again on bass, and piano. For jazz lovers, but also of the prog, is an absolutely hard to be rediscovered, although it is extremely rare to find in the vinyl version (which is posted).
