And here is a brief story of this band. "The Golden Cups" was formed in 1965 in Yokohama. In search of new music tendencies Dave Hirao, veteran of rock'n'roll, visited US in 1965. There he got to know what is beat music. And returned to Japan with new ideas. Same year the future member of "The Golden Cups" Eddie Ban also was in USA from where he brang fuzz-box. Another guitar player Kenneth Ito was the first who had Fender guitar. So it's possible to say that the band was innovator. Another two members also had experience in playng.
For the first the band got name "Group And I" but soon renamed to "The Golden Cups". The first success they got after being on popular musical youh programm on TV. New sound told to Japanese youth that very interesting band appeared!
"The Golden Cups" were innovators in fashion. They were the first who performed in simply clothes, showin the youth that all members of the band are same as they. And this was so unusual. Because all GS-bands performed in specially clothes.
In March 1968 "The Golden Cups" released a debut album that I'm hapy to present here today. It consists of many songs covers. But it has some their works. Your ears will hear western musical style. Almost new style in Japanes music that time. Among the covers are James Brown's "I Feel Good", The Righteous Brothers' "Unchained Melody", Procol Harum's "Whiter Shade Of Pale" and many others. But the most coolest cover is "Hey Joe", where by the middle of the song begins psychedelic freak-out!
This band release two albums more - "Golden Cups Album Vol.2" (1968) and "Super Live Session" (1969). I'll tell you about the secon on the next post. And about "Super Live Session" I'll tell you when we will enter 1969 year.
